The 2016 Reading Rescue

It’s been two days since the inauguration and the social media and online uproar is in full effect. It’s kind of like a scab that had almost healed over, was ripped off and everything that covered the nation in apprehension was released to bleed out again. Here in Atlanta, the entire weekend has been covered in aggressive rain as if even the clouds were uncontrollably sobbing the change in chief command.

I’ve had various conversations with family, friends, associates, and the like and the opinions are more varied than you would think. Many of which have accepted the reality of the change and just wish they could get over this awkward period reminiscent of the weeks after the election.

Eventually, I was asked how I’m handling it.

I was like “Handling what?”
And they were like this whole ordeal.
I was like ,“Hmmm. Ahmm, “ I don’t think I’m ‘handling’ anything. I’m really just doing what I’ve always done and tuning in whenever necessary.”
So what do you usually do?
“In Atlanta it feels like all I do is drive in traffic, listen to audiobooks, and listen to Google Play Music.”

And thus the first posts about books, music, and passing time was born.

Anyone who knows me knows that I am addicted to Kindle Unlimited.  Similar to Audible, but less expensive and with more options (if you ask me) a lot of my commute time and even editing time was spent giving partial attention to audiobooks in 2016.

If I was traveling, instead of getting papercuts skimming through magazines, I’d whip out my iPad Air , open my Kindle App and digitally flip through a book.

The 2016 Reading Rescue, Part 1 consists of books from my reading / listening list and descriptions that can be found on Amazon’s website. I gravitate to mystery, suspense, and *gasp* murder. But upon suggestions by Amazon, I have some other literary gems in the list, so I dare say there should be a little something for everyone. All descriptions come from Amazon.com (as of 01/22/17) and if you click the title links you will see more details about the listing. The order is simply based on when I read them, not in order of awesomeness.

For high-powered personal injury attorney Noah Byron, the good things in life come with a price tag—cars, houses, women. That’s why he represents only cases that come with the possibility of a nice cut of the action. But as a favor to his ex-wife, he meets with the mother of twelve-year-old Joel, a boy poisoned by tainted children’s medicine. While the official story is that a psycho tampered with bottles, the boy’s mother believes something much more sinister is at work…and the trail leads right back to the pharmaceutical company.

As Noah digs deeper into the case, he quickly finds himself up against a powerful corporation that will protect itself at any cost. He also befriends young Joel and breaks the number one rule of personal injury law: don’t make it personal. Faced with the most menacing of opponents and the most vulnerable of clients, Noah is determined to discover the truth and win justice for Joel—even if it means losing everything else.

So that’s all for Part 1. I will get the rest of the list to you guys before the end of the week. And then will start the music ones soon after.
